SPRING SHEARING SEASON
Shear at your farm or at Millstone Manor. April, 2008 will soon be upon us, along with the preparation for spring shearing season. Millstone Manor offers professional shearing services by Christopher Aiken, The Alpaca Wrangler. Scheduling is now underway for Spring 2008. Book now for Christopher to shear at your farm. Customers that purchase animals from Millstone Manor can feel free to haul their animals to our farm to share our shearing appointment. Have a small herd? Christopher will be available for farms that wish to haul in to Millstone Manor on pre-scheduled shearing dates. Contact the farm for more details.

Christopher brings to the alpaca community many, many years of shearing experience on site and at major shows. Offering a low stress environment for alpaca breeders, Christopher provides custom shearing services. As a fellow alpaca breeder, Christopher understands the importance of handling each of your alpacas with skill and gentle care. Feel free to trim nails and give injections after your alpacas are shorn. Shearing day provides the perfect opportunity for alpaca owners to carefully evaluate each animal in their herd. It is also the perfect time to clip your fleece samples for micron counts. Have your individual envelopes ready! Enjoy the educational opportunity that shearing day provides!

The Alpaca Wrangler is now taking reservations for Spring 2008. Christopher’s current schedule includes shearing in 18 states. Millstone Manor is taking reservations for the Western Maryland Tour. Please call or email the farm for efficient scheduling: suebhull@aol.com, 301-582-9494 (H), 301-491-0985 (C). Feel free to contact Christopher direct: 410-982-1066 or email: ShastAlpaca@aol.com. Christopher shares his time between his alpaca ranch in CA and his family’s alpaca farm, AlpacAria in White Hall, Md.

In order to make the most out of your shearing day, please keep in mind the following tips:
1. Have your fleece bags ready prior to shearing day. (Identify each animal’s name, date, and clip location) We recommend clear large trash bags for huacaya fleeces.
2. Animals must be dry 24 hours prior to shearing.
3. Have animals in efficient holding areas prior to shearing.
4. For their safety, animals’ fleeces must be free of large debris and burrs!!!
5. Have envelopes ready for micron samples (animals name, date).
6. Start your day by reviewing your list of special cuts with Christopher (show fleeces, show animals, breeding males, and auction animals).
7. Clear plastic drop cloths work well for show fleeces. Carefully place show fleeces in large paper leaf bags with proper identification.

Pricing and terms:
$100.00 set up fee per farm
$30.00 per alpaca (no extra fee for show fleeces)
